Why convert HEIC photos to JPG?
Since iOS 11, iPhones save photos in HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) by default. HEIC uses modern HEVC compression, so photos take up roughly half the space of a JPG with similar visual quality. The catch is compatibility: many websites, older Windows PCs, printing kiosks, office software and upload forms still don't accept HEIC files.
JPG (also written JPEG) is the most widely supported photo format in the world. Converting an iPhone photo to JPG means you can email it, upload it, print it or open it in practically any app without installing extra codecs.
Not sure what HEIC actually is? Our guide what is a HEIC file explains it in plain language, and HEIC vs JPG compares the two formats side by side.
Private by design: your photos stay on your device
Most online converters upload your photos to a server, convert them there and send them back. This converter works differently. When you add a photo, a decoder built on the open-source libheif library runs inside your browser and produces the JPG locally. Your images are never transmitted, stored or seen by us.
You can check this yourself: once your first photo has been converted, the converter keeps working even if you switch off your internet connection. You can also install the site as an app and use it offline.
What this converter does
Batch HEIC conversion
Convert dozens of photos in one go. Files are processed in the background, so the page stays responsive. For large libraries, see the batch HEIC converter.
Quality control
Choose JPG quality from 70% to 100%. Each file shows its original and converted size so you can compare.
Optional resizing
Shrink 12 or 48 megapixel photos to the width and height you choose, with or without keeping the aspect ratio.
Correct orientation and colour
Rotation stored in the HEIC file is applied, and the photo's colour profile (such as Display P3) is embedded in the JPG.
Real JPG output
Every file is fully decoded and re-encoded, then checked to be a valid JPEG before it is offered for download. Files are never just renamed.

HEIC vs JPG at a glance
| Feature | HEIC / HEIF | JPG / JPEG |
|---|---|---|
| File size | Smaller for similar quality | Usually larger |
| Compatibility | Apple devices, recent Windows and Android with support installed | Practically every device, app and website |
| Transparency | Supported | Not supported |
| Colour depth | Up to 10 bits or more per channel | 8 bits per channel |
| Best for | Storing photos on your phone | Sharing, uploading and printing |
Because JPG compression is less efficient, the converted file is often larger than the original HEIC. That is expected and does not mean quality was added.
Frequently asked questions
Is this HEIC to JPG converter really free?
Yes. There are no sign-ups, watermarks or conversion limits. Because conversion runs on your own device, there are no server costs per photo.
Are my photos uploaded anywhere?
No. Your photos are read and converted by your browser. They are not sent to our server or to any third party.
Why is my JPG bigger than the HEIC file?
HEIC compresses photos about twice as efficiently as JPG, so a JPG of similar quality needs more bytes. Lower the quality setting or resize the image if you need a smaller file, or use the compress HEIC tool.
Can I convert HEIC to JPG on my phone?
Yes. Open this page in your mobile browser, tap Choose files and select your photos. Very large photos may need more memory than some phones allow; if a conversion fails, try the resize option.
Does converting keep the date and location of my photo?
Only if you turn on Keep photo details (EXIF) in the settings. It is off by default so that you don't accidentally share where a photo was taken.
